Why Midwifery?

My very first well-woman exam was with a midwife. She was so kind, listened to my concerns and made me feel comfortable. Because of how she treated me, I continued seeing her, and she even delivered my first baby before she retired. She always held a special place in my heart, and when I started my career in nursing and midwifery, I knew I wanted to provide that same level of care to my patients. I can’t think of any other career I’d rather be doing!

What are your clinical interests within our specialty?

Most of my patients see me for care during their pregnancy, but I also see teenagers and care for women after they’re done having children. That’s one of the things I love about midwifery; I get the privilege to create relationships with my patients and care for them throughout their lives.

Why Ob/Gyn associates?

Midwives work together with OB/GYNs, because we cannot do certain procedures and surgeries. Ob/Gyn Associates has 8 Ob/GYNs and 2 Nurse Practitioners that I work with who will be able to assist me and my patients when I need them.

Why should a patient choose our practice for their care?

Because Ob/Gyn Associates has an office with OB physicians, Nurse Practitioners and a Midwife, our clinic can offer care for every woman and provide routine yearly care, specialized care, pregnancy care and pre- and post-menopausal care. We also have several locations around the metro which make it convenient for your appointments. During pregnancy, our providers deliver at MercyOne Downtown, MercyOne West Des Moines, and Methodist West.

Why Des Moines?

I was raised in Nebraska, where Midwest values (kindness, hard-work, and family) became very important to me. Now that I’m raising my own children, I wanted to make sure as they grow up, they are surrounded by people who have the same values. My family and I came to Des Moines in 2021 when an opportunity became available for me to begin my midwifery career, and we’ve loved getting to know the people here!

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I live in Altoona with my husband Josh and 4 children. We have 3 boys and 1 girl. You’ll find us at basketball and baseball games and riding our bikes around town.

We are accepting new patients! To schedule an appointment with OBGYN Associates, call us at 515-288-3287.
